Round Seven - King 2 - A Place Of Our Own

Duncan and Alima King and their son Gabriel have finally moved out of Alima's old home and into a rented duplex next door to newly divorced Adele Darwin and her daughter Maya. Their life is pretty idyllic, but can Alima's cheerful personality break down the wall around Adele?

Alima was enjoying having someone to talk to, even if Adele was rather spiky. Alima knew where her rage was coming from, though, and she sympathised. She still had a little rage towards Jace and Petal's father even though it had been over two decades since he'd abandoned them all. She listened to Adele's rants with good grace and always had something fun to say.

The progress of time wasn't curbing Alima and Duncan's love one tiny bit. Alima may have been a grandmother but that wasn't going to stop her and her beloved kissing, flirting and dancing around the place as if they were teenagers. They were young at heart, now and forever.

Their preoccupation with each other and their long work hours sometimes meant that Gabriel was left to fend for himself, but he didn't mind too much. He had his easel and the alone-time gave him plenty of excuses to gobble up cookies.

Besides, it wasn't as if he was alone all the time. He constantly pestered Maya Darwin to play with him, tell him jokes and talk about high school - she was a little annoyed at being bugged by a little kid but he was smitten in a childish sort of a way.

In the end, though, the Darwins were hard to get along with. Alima was perfectly content to listen to Adele gripe about Harvey but when she brought up Esther she wasn't so accomodating. She'd made friends with Esther a while ago, although she hadn't known the identity of her mystery man until recently, and Alima wasn't about to be a disloyal friend. A vicious argument ensued and Alima was left wondering if Adele would ever recover from her heartbreak.
