Round Seven - Bachman/Darwin - Oops

Allyn Bachman and Tom Darwin have been cohabiting for several years now but their easy relationship is under threat from within; their combined daddy-issues are pushing Allyn ever further forward while Tom backs away from the notion of commitment. Will they get through? Allyn has some ideas of her own about what they need...

Allyn tried not to feel too guilty. Yeah, so she'd skipped the pill a couple of times because she'd either been drunk or hungover, but what were the odds anything had actually happened? She didn't want to trap Tom with a baby... this constant nausea and tiredness was probably due to something she ate.

Of course it didn't turn out that way. After a particularly bad day while Tom was at work she ended up calling her doctor around for a home visit. The woman wasn't dumb - she made Allyn buy a pregnancy test and take it there and then.

"They're not always right, though, are they? There's false positives and stuff like that," said Allyn, panicking. This all had to be a terrible mistake. She didn't want a baby! So she'd missed a period and felt rough as all hell - big freakin' deal.

"Well, yes, sometimes. You should make an appointment so we can do a few extra tests just in case. But adding together the test, your symptoms and the missed birth control I think you're probably not going to get a different answer."

The further tests proved it conclusively. Allyn didn't tell Tom straight away - she considered "getting rid of it" but whatever she told herself there was a little part of her that wanted a child, and she felt like Tom at least needed a say in the matter. She told him about the new little person over her lunch (he'd only just woken up and grilled cheese seemed a bit much).

To her surprise he didn't freak out at all. In fact, even though he was still very vocal about not wanting to get married or show any sign of commitment he actually wanted a kid. "Besides, I know you want one, deep down. If you didn't we wouldn't be having this conversation. I'm not that kind of guy and I can't promise this isn't a huge mistake, but hey. I love you. Let's do what's best for you."

Allyn had no idea what had gotten into him - she only knew the vaguest of details about what was going on with his family at the moment - but she wasn't about to complain.

Allyn started showing soon after that and had to temporarily trade in her favourite wardrobe items for frumpy maternity clothes. She was miserable, and the fact that she couldn't even make the pancakes she was craving without burning them just made everything even worse. But at least Tom was going to stick around.

Note: Allyn is Pleasure/Family - she's currently got both a want to have a baby and a fear of having one. Conflicted much? Tom doesn't care either way.

  1. I really hope Tom and Allyn workout. It is good that he didn't freak out about the baby and is being responsible. Hopefully Allyn will come around and the baby fear will go away.
